Madeira, Portugal: the Hawaii of Europe
Located in the Atlantic Ocean, northeast of Africa, Madeira is a volcanic archipelago that has been described as the Hawaii of Europe. Its breathtaking mountainous and rugged coastal landscapes have earned it this comparison.
In Madeira you will find cove beaches such as Punta do Sol, ideal for swimming because of its smooth, soft rocks. You can also make excursions to viewpoints in the heights, such as Pico do Arieiro. Located 1,818 meters above sea level, this peak offers spectacular views among the clouds.
Its unique orange and reddish peaks and cliffs are another great attraction of the island. Pico Ruivo, at 1,862 meters, is another excellent viewpoint to appreciate these fascinating landscapes.
Norway’s fjords
Norway’s majestic fjords are an iconic image of the country and a destination not to be missed. Western Norway is home to the largest concentration of these narrow coastal valleys characterized by steep mountain slopes.
One of the best known fjords is Geirangerfjord, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It takes about 5-6 hours by car from Oslo, but the scenery is worth it. Its high waterfalls, such as the Seven Sisters at 250 meters high, are a breathtaking sight.
Another fascinating place is Skageflå Farm, boldly built into the cliff face. It is accessible only by ferry and requires climbing a steep staircase, but its views between mountains and fjords are spectacular.
Namibia and its deserts
The country of Namibia, in southwest Africa, is known for its vast desert of the same name. The Namib Desert contains some of the most fascinating landscapes on the planet.
One iconic spot is Deadvlei, with its dry dead trees surrounded by towering orange dunes. Other highlights include Spitzkoppe, also called the Matterhorn of Namibia, or the Etosha National Park to see wild animals such as lions and elephants.
Namibia is also home to the world’s largest population of cheetahs, making it an excellent destination for wildlife lovers.
Seychelles and its dream beaches
The Seychelles archipelago in the Indian Ocean is famous for its dazzling beaches, considered some of the most beautiful in the world. It is made up of 115 islands, Mahé being the largest.
One iconic beach is Anse Source D’Argent on La Digue, accessible by ferry from Mahé. With large granite rocks contrasting against the white sand and turquoise water, it is a stunning postcard of Seychelles.
Other charms of these islands include lush palm trees, rich marine life for diving and a laid-back tropical atmosphere.
Patagonia between Argentina and Chile
Shared between southern Argentina and Chile, Patagonia contains some of the most breathtaking scenery in South America. Its forests, lakes, glaciers and peaks have attracted travelers from all over the world.
On the Chilean side is the famous Torres del Paine National Park, with its rocky peaks and wildlife such as guanacos and pumas. In Argentina, the National Glaciers with mountains like Fitz Roy are another highlight.
Traveling the mythical Ruta 40 you can absorb the endless beauty of Patagonia. Its winding routes between mountain ranges will take you to more and more incredible landscapes.
Ireland, the Emerald Isle
The vibrant Emerald Isle is full of history, Celtic culture and dreamy landscapes. Coastal cliffs, green fields dotted with sheep and rolling hills give it a special charm.
One famous place is Skellig Michael Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the location of filming for Star Wars. It is only accessible by boat, and requires climbing more than 600 steps to the ancient medieval monastery at the top. The views are spectacular.
The imposing Cliffs of Moher are another emblematic point, with its 214 meters high over the Atlantic. Walking along its paths admiring the views is an unforgettable experience.
The French Riviera
Also called Côte d’Azur, the French Riviera remains one of Europe’s most glamorous vacation destinations. Located in southeastern France, along the Mediterranean coast, it combines beautiful villages, idyllic beaches and a vibrant cultural life.
Medieval Eze is one of the villages not to be missed, perched atop a hill with breathtaking views. Saint-Tropez is another highlight, with its charm as a seaside village and summer resort for high society.
The Calanques cliffs, near Marseille, are another stunning place to visit. It can be reached on foot or by boat to admire its rock formations overlooking the turquoise blue Mediterranean.
Tuscany and its charms
In central Italy, the region of Tuscany is famous for its rolling hills, vineyards, cypress trees and charming villages. Historic cities such as Florence are brimming with Renaissance art and architecture.
San Gimignano, with its medieval towers, is an architectural gem that looks like something out of a fairy tale. The vineyard landscapes of the Val d’Orcia area are typical of the picture-postcard Tuscan scenery one imagines.
Traveling the winding roads of the Tuscan countryside, stopping at wineries and small villages, is an excellent way to experience the essence of this beautiful region.
New Zealand, the land of Middle Earth
Thanks to the epic Lord of the Rings movies, we all dream of visiting New Zealand‘s stunning landscapes. From glaciers and fjords to volcanoes and vast forests, this land of the Long White Cloud is a natural paradise.
