The theatre lies at the very foot of the hill — 87 metres in a straight line from the Alcazaba, although the walk round to its gate on Calle Alcazabilla takes 5 or 6 minutes — and the two are the same building in a sense: the council points out the great ashlars in the fortress walls that were quarried out of the theatre below.
